Welcome
to charity-ware.org!
Charityware
(c-ware) is any software that supports charity. Some developers ask that proceeds from the
sale of software be donated to charity, while others license or donate their
software directly to charity.
NEWS UPDATE (December 2008): Charity-ware.org has a new maintainer. A new, interactive web site is coming in spring 2009. If you wish to register your charityware here, please contact us.

Each month, we will highlight a
different software product
and the charity that it supports.

At charity-ware.org, all of the
software is 'try-before-you-buy.' Just download the software
you want. If you like it, return to 'buy' the software by
making a donation to a worthwhile charity.

In general, charityware
(a.k.a. careware or c-ware) is any software that supports charity.
At charity-ware.org, we promote any and all types of
charityware,
including;
|
|
|
- Free charityware
is completely free. You are under no obligation to
donate money, but are encouraged to do so.
|
|
|
- Open-Source charityware
is free and the software's source code is
available. Users are allowed to change the code and
pass along the modified version. Again,
users are encouraged to make a donation.
Examples include Vim
and XPlanet.
|
| |
- Commercial charityware
is software for which the proceeds are
split between the developing company and a supported
charity. Charity-ware.org reports the
percentage of proceeds that go to charity.
|
| |
- Donated
software is software that is licensed free to charities.
This great idea was suggested by Rick
Jelliffe and we're still looking for a term to describe
this 'Different Kind of Charityware'.
